FIRST FILM: WAITING FOR A MIRACLE
WAITING FOR A MIRACLE
“Communism was Hell. Capitalism was even stranger. The Velvet Revolution.” A hybrid film made of archives, original fiction and non-fiction shooting in what was then still Czecholovakia. Waiting for a Miracle wove together the personal stories of six women who experienced the change of guard in 1990, together with the legend of Bohemia’s St Agnes, all through critical questions about the limitations of both the soviet and capitalist regimes. Interestingly, this small, Canada Council-funded indie film launched the career of Czech movie star Tatiana Wlhelmova, who went on to become one of the leading actors in the Czech New Wave Cinema of the 90s.
